How often should you have your piano tuned?

Ideally, pianos need tuning every six months because they gradually go out of tune.

In the winter, when the heating is on, humidity levels drop, so the tuning changes. Then, in the summer, when the heating is off again, the humidity rises, so once again the tuning changes. This is because the sound board of the piano expands and contracts with the fluctuating humidity levels.

If you leave it too long, the pitch will drop noticeably, which then may require two tunings to restore it to the correct pitch.

Attention to detail?

We like to give our tuning work plenty of care, with attention to detail. After all, a piano is a big investment, and needs to be looked after.

When we tune your piano, we also check the mechanical state to see if it needs attention in other areas. We are always happy to discuss any problems that may arise, and because of the teaching work, we can explain things in a way that you can understand.

Don't Tune It Yourself!

Do not try to tune your own piano unless you are properly qualified to do so! This is a very delicate and precise process, and you can put the instrument seriously out of tune, and may even cause damage.
